HOCUS POCUS: THIS IS OUR HALLOWEEN IN 2018
Happy Halloween!
Ahh… October 31st. This day is always bittersweet for us at the Johnston home. We love celebrating Halloween all month long. Okay, okay. Admittedly, we start decorating in September but, October is always such a fun month for us. This October was especially fun for us because it was a month of firsts. Here is Our Halloween in 2018!
For starters, we went to go see Fall Out Boy, aka, my favorite band since I was a little emo fourteen-year-old girl. From my knowledge, at least since I’ve been a fan, they have never been to Arkansas so this was a MUST for us. It was actually an early birthday gift so I could not pass it up! Not to mention, Twenty One Pilots new album, Trench, came out with the first week of October so we have been listening to the album all month long.
I know I am behind the times, but I actually watched Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, for the first time as well. In my opinion, it was a little cheesy, but honestly, what 80’s movie isn’t?
I also was able to my little sister’s hair and makeup for her Homecoming dance and carved pumpkins with my younger brother as well.
We also both started new jobs this month which is a huge blessing.
Cody and I both DIYed our costumes this year. I went as an alien with glittery space buns and fun makeup. Cody’s costume was pretty epic. He went as skull kid, possessed by Majora’s mask from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Not only did Cody hand make his mask and painted every detail, but he also sewed his whole costume! It may have taken a couple months to make but it was definitely worth the time he put into it. This is just a tidbit of our Halloween in 2018!
I also went to my first every corn maze. It was pretty fun, despite how muddy everything was. We pretty much followed the map because we didn’t want to get caught in the mud and have to find our way out of it. Nonetheless, it was still a very fun experience. That night, I also went on my first haunted hayride which was a pretty fun experience. It wasn’t terribly scary, but there were a couple times when people jumped out of the woods that made me jump a couple times so it was definitely worth it.
We also threw our 2nd annual Johnston Halloween party, but we switched things up a bit. In the light going to my first corn maze, we actually created our own walk-thru. We made the maze into a treasure hunt so we had people out there for quite a while. We also had roasted weenies and smores by the fire as well.
I also went to my first air show. Where we live, we have airplanes always flying around our house in preparation for the air show, as well as our neighbors playing around for sport. It was a very interesting experience as I have never really been inside of a military plane before and it was really cool to see all of the models they use. It’s not really much of a Halloween event, but it was still cool to see.
This year, October was definitely full of new experiences and fun things to do. Sadly, since we don’t live in a neighborhood, we never get any trick-or-treaters. We always end up taking down our decorations early so it’s definitely a bittersweet time.
The end of October may be disappointing because it means that Halloween is finally over. But, you know what comes after Halloween? The best time of the year means Christmas music, decorations, and all the food you can eat. I guess the end of Halloween isn’t so bad, after all.
